For 25 years, founding partners Krystal Mackey and Steven Hefferan have specialized in creating luminous environments suitable for the display and engaging viewing of light sensitive collections at many of the country's premier art, science and history museums.

Krystal Mackey found her passion for lighting design while studying architecture in Paris and hanging out in museums. She has been designing lighting for all types of built environments for over 25 years, and is a founding partner at HPILD. She now specializes in providing exceptional lighting for residential projects. With a desire to bring art to life through proper lighting, she considers each house to be a work of art in itself.
Providing specification services for new construction, renovations, and collection reinstallations. Helping museums with the adoption and integration of LED light sources for exhibition lighting. During the past 25 years, Steve has specialized in the design of luminous environments for museum and gallery spaces with the most demanding visual and object preservation criteria.
Creating pleasing brightness perceptions for light sensitive objects at conservation light levels. Supporting institutions with collection reinstallations, permanent exhibitions, and special exhibitions. Collaborating with curators, conservators, and exhibit designers to find solutions with long-term value.
