The swith on my table lamp was broken. It kept turning without ever catching to turn the lamp on. I called the Lamp Doctor and was told that I could bring it in and wait while it was repaired. The cost would be $35. I brought the lamp in the same day I called and it was fixed within minutes. It was a small job, but not one I would have been able to do. It's nice to know these local businesses exist for non do-it-yourself-types, like me. The electrician did a great, quick job and the owner was very friendly. Well worth the price.

Very knowledgeable and friendly. They have an assortment of beautiful and unique lamps. The owner helped us choose the perfect shade to fit the lamp that caught our eye. I'll definitely head back here for our next lamp purchase.

Good service, good prices, great people. Brought in an antique chandelier from Europe. They worked with me to rewire it, had the parts to hangs it - and did it quickly while we waited. Can't recommend this place enough.

In this very, very high-tech world, it's a pleasure to find the kind of craftsmen who bring old school values and a hands-on work ethic to their profession. And so it was when our electrician diagnosed our vintage, Art Deco chandelier as being in need of complete re-wiring, he recommended that we contact The Lamp Doctor. As they say on SEINFELD, "Yadda, Yadda, Yadda": We brought the fixture in on a Monday.got a phone call on Wednesday saying it was ready for pick-up the next day.and by Thursday afternoon our electrician had hung it back up where it belongs.

Not only was the turnaround time head-spinning.but the fixture performed perfectly and looked like it must have when it was first manufactured (I'd asked The Lamp Doctor to do a "rejuvenation" as well as the re-wiring). Add to their obvious skill the courtesy and patience of Carol and her staff and you have the formula that explains why this company has been plying its craft for nearly a half-century.

No words are strong enough for me to recommend that The Lamp Doctor is THE place to go if you are in need of restoring, re-wiring or otherwise repairing those vintage treasures.

I ordered a chandelier from this company on eBay and was VERY excited to receive it. Once it came in the mail and we started to assemble it, we realized the pipe that was attached to the base had broken in shipping, and after spending some time figuring out a a replacement piece we were able to continue to assemble it fully. I ended up calling them to tell them about my trouble in assembling the chandelier, and they said they would have been happy to send me any replacement pieces, refunded me $100 for my trouble, and offered to send some extra replacement crystals for a crystal that broke in shipping, one that was missing, and just in case any break in the future. I'm very thankful for their willingness to make sure my experience was a positive one.

I can't say enough about how wonderful the team is at Lamp Doctor! I own a small vintage business and the Lamp Doctor is my go to place for any repairs. Carol is delightful and Chris is a true miracle worker. They have helped me out of more than one lamp crisis. Their prices are fair and their work is quick and professional! Not to mention the shop is a treasure trove of beautiful antique chandeliers and lamps glittering around you while you wait. This shop is a true gem and I'll never go anywhere else! I would trust them any new or heirloom piece.

Just wanted to share my experience today at the Lamp Doctor. I be used them in the past with great results so I went back today with 2 lamps that I was sure needed to be rewired. It turned out I was wrong, the technician tested them a few times with different bulbs and they were fine so I just wanted to thank them for their honesty! I was convinced going in that the lamps were faulty so they could have easily just taken them in and charged me but they are good people and run an honest shop. Thanks!

Similar to the one-star review from a couple days ago, I too was treated rudely and condescendingly. We had several beautiful, 1950's collectible vintage table lamps rewired by Lamp Doctor 10-11 years ago, and beginning a couple years ago, so only about 8 years after they did their work, the wiring started failing on the lamps. Flickering lights, or not always turning on, my guess was cheap materials or loose wiring.

The lamps have always been treated carefully, they've only ever sat in their one spots in the house each of them. We never moved them around. Today finally one chronic problem lamp sparked really loudly and the bulb went out and the smell of electric fire filled the room. I called Lamp Doctor to say I nearly had a fire in my home, that some of the wiring had started failing as early as 8 years ago and that I needed them to redo their problematic wiring.

She was SO RUDE. She immediately yelled at me when I myself was not yelling, she interrupted repeatedly, wouldn't let me speak at all, she loudly shrieked at her husband right in front of a customer in their store that I was complaining about the work and wanted free replacement cords, then she shrilly, loudly laughed at me, very mocking. Just horrible.

No concern whatsoever that my house containing a child had nearly had a fire. Not one single, "Sorry that happened, " or "Sorry you're disappointed, " even if she continued to say they wouldn't honor their work. Aside from their appalling personalities, I find it galling this woman said to me I shouldn't have even expected their wiring to last 10 years.

She repeated that several times. In fact, when I told her I'd be writing a Yelp review, she said "Well you have to say you had the work done 10-11 years ago!" And I said, yes of course I will, but how does that help your case when people expect a wire on a lamp to last longer than that! And which was the whole entire point of my complaint. I've collected vintage all my life and had lamps with 50 year old wiring that functions perfectly. I've had super cheap Target lamp wires last longer.

Crazy The professional electrician I hired to rewire and install my antique chandelier 12 years ago did a perfect job, and we've had no problems. No need to replace THAT wiring. Readers, it's your home, protect it and yourselves by only hiring the best people and this is important - those of the strongest character, who care about people.

Unfortunately, I did not have the good experience that other's have had. I used them for a repair and can't say enough how upsetting dealing with them was. Condescending, opinionated, and down rite rude is the only way I can describe the experience I had. I would not recommend them for repair, can't speak to how they are when you buy something from them.

I brought my beloved antique lamp in to the Lamp Doctor today after its archaic cord officially broke in half last night, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. Carol and Chris were so welcoming and kind, and as I waited for Chris to expertly re-wire my lamp (with a lovely old-fashioned-looking cord that's up to code), we all chatted (masks on!) about this crazy new world and how important it is to be kind to each other, and how we need to support each other through these hard times.

I left with my beautiful new (old) lamp, feeling so much better than when I had first walked in. It helped that the rewiring didn't break the bank! I will DEFINITELY be back, both for the awesome service, as well as for the gorgeous chandeliers, sconces and lamps for sale there. 10 stars out of 5 for Carol and Chris!

Excellent service and excellent customer service. Carol is the owner and she runs her business the way you wish everyone would run their business. I live in Manhattan and could not find anyone that I felt comfortable enough with to let them do this job. I have antique brass candlesticks that really needed to be stripped, polished and re-lacquered.

I have never been to the store and I have never met Carol. Everything was done over the phone. They did a beautiful job. I never thought they could bring these candlesticks back to their original beauty. The price was very fair. The job was done in a timely fashion and I would not hesitate to recommend this business to anyone.

Took a chance on the Lamp Doctor for rewiring two antique brass lamps and couldn't be happier. Carol and her team gave me a great price and did an excellent job. I live in Park Slope - they were able to make the repairs while I waited and saved me a return trip. Thank you!

Took my vintage kodak lamp in this week hoping to breathe new life into it. Chris took great care to take it apart and diagnose the issue in a timely and personable manner. Very happy with the repair, turnaround and cost!

My husband just brought in his bedside table lamp that he loved. The pull string on it hasn't worked in a while (banker's lamp style), and he had been screwing and unscrewing the light bulb to make it work. That stop working recently also. He brought the lamp to the lamp doctor even though it's about 20, 25 minutes away from us and they fixed it in less than 10 minutes. they said it was just one small easy part. they did it right then and there. they were quick, efficient and did a wonderful job.

Very happy to have the lamp back. to replace the lamp would have cost over $60, the repair cost much much less than that and they're great people. Definitely worth going to them even if you don't live nearby! Ira and I 100% recommend them!

The lamp doctor is one fine establishment. Having needed to have a lamp fixed, I drove from Queens to Brooklyn going on the recommendations from yelp. They were right on the money. Carol and Chris took my lamp and fixed it on the spot without even a charge. It was a minor repair, but honestly when is the last time you went into a store and was told no charge. They are a credit to the world of mom and pop stores and I highly recommend them for all your lighting needs. Thanks guys!

I took in a lamp that I've had for 45 years and it got a makeover.new wiring, socket, shade, cleaned and varnished, etc. I am THRILLED with my 'new' lamp. The workmanship is outstanding.with curbside service if needed. I rarely write reviews however Lamp Doctor's service and work are outstanding. Thank you for bringing my lamp back to life.also must mention the professional attitude and knowledge of the owner and Chris, the gentleman who does the work.true artists. THANK YOU

I can't believe all the rave reviews. I had a very negative experience with the quality of their work, having to go back and forth to the place because of shoddy work - and I'm not overly picky about things. They wired my desk lamp incorrectly, and put in an ultra-short wire without properly installing the wire in the first place. Five trips later and a hefty bill - I cannot recommend them.

Found out about lamp doctor when an electrician told me I was missing the pieces to hang my vintage chandelier. Then a different electrician said to go to Lamp Doctor to get necessary parts. My boyfriend and I brought my the chandelier in and they were extremely helpful. Carol told me nothing was missing from the chandelier but there was just an extra part which probably had come from the last ceiling it was in but was needed for the chandelier.

I now know that electrician #1 probably was just confused by this part. Anyway, the point is Carol told me it needed to be rewired and one socket was broken. They did it very quickly for a very reasonable price. She also told me the best way to hang a chandelier where there isn't a lamp box very close to where you need it, is to swag! Long story short, we had always felt like the chandelier was too small for the living room anyway.

So we've decided to hang it in our bedroom. Can not fricking wait to have this chandelier hung after almost a year in its box and two failed attempts by a certain handyman app to hang it. Will post pictures when it is done! Thank you Carol! Shop here! Bring your sick lamp to be cured.

Fantastic service start to finish. I had a few days off and called to get a quote on a broken floor lamp. Carol gave me a quote very reasonable quote after I sent her pictures of the lamp. Chris was available and at my door in literally less than an hour! He was very friendly (and tolerant of my toddler running around trying to steal his tools). He made fast work of the problem. Very satisfied. No way I'd call anyone else!

Worth the schlep to Midwood (from Manhattan)! Lamp doctor made me realize the importance of small businesses. I was dreading the experience of lugging my antique lamp on the subway deep into Brooklyn to get fixed, but the awesome staff at this place made the afternoon a total joy. Personable, engaging, and knowledgeable staff went the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied and could easily transport the lamp back home to my apartment. They were much faster with the repair than I expected. And it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Highly recommended!

Lamp Doctor is incredible! I brought a mid-century floor lamp in with European wiring and Chris fixed it right up. Decent pricing and great service. The friendliest bunch in Midwood.

I can't remember the last time I visited a service with such kind personable professionals and the sense of urgency that is truly missing in the repair industry these days. I brought a doozy to Carol, a cracked metal midcentury lamp. The item has a European plug that needed to be converted, metal to glue, and with that unusual plug, I'd never even seen it light up before.

I came down to the Lamp Doctor after the glowing reviews, and boy were they deserved. Not only was my lamp restored to full working order, Carol kindly offered seltzer, a place to relax and visit, and her expertise during both visits. There's no other place I'd bring my repairs or lighting needs! Also, the prices were incredibly fair for the service, which is something that can be scary when you're trying to bring these gems back to life!

This place is the best! After visiting 2 other hardware stores (to absolutely no avail), I came into Lamp Doctor to fix my mid century pole lamp that needed help with the wiring. They had it repaired within ten minutes and their prices were beyond fair. I spent those ten minutes gawking at their impressive (and well priced) selection of chandeliers and lamps (from vintage to modern to straight up funky).

The shop owner, Carol, was so kind and even sent me off with a little lagniappe, or bonus. I grew up in Brooklyn and these old school, true-to-their-craft, honest, and fair establishments are, sadly, few and far between these days. It was a sentimental treat to find these folks. Do yourself a favor and go check out their shop. (plus there's amazing Turkish food nearby)

Neither inexpensive nor fast. Sloppy work and communications in multiple transactions. Was promised the works to start then had a slow downslide. One light I should have rewired myself, as it didn't work when it got it back from the Lamp Doctor. I fixed it myself then. Another was crooked and the other, fine. Attempted to have another fixture remodeled but after 6 weeks and many calls to them inquiring about progress, I gave up and retrieved it from them. A bit of research and work myself it is wonderful after 1 day's work at home. I would not return. They were quite nice if scattered and really helpful.

The Lamp Doctor is an excellent, knowledgeable, professional, timely and overall AAA business. I brought them a unique chandelier, they understood it immediately, did fabulous work, at a price that was very reasonable. I will be returning to Carol and her crew with a broken porcelain lamp base that my Mother was given in 1945, to have it restored.
