Lighthouse Youth & Family Services is an agency dedicated to creating a community where every young person has the opportunity to thrive. A nationally recognized innovator in services for families in crisis, foster care and adoption, mothers and babies, homeless youth and young adults, delinquent youth, and youth learning to become self-sufficient.
We work to empower young people and families to succeed through a continuum of care that promotes healing and growth. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) youth are dramatically over-represented in the homeless youth population.

Lighthouse Youth & Family Services is a fulfillment of the dream of a group of African-American women with the Baptist Women's Fellowship in Cincinnati and others who sought a better future for young people and families. The agency was founded in 1969. Lighthouse opened the first group home for girls in the state of Ohio in 1971.
Lighthouse offers an integrated system of care for ages 0-24 designed to guide and track their progress over time. This includes mental health services, including same-day assessments, as well as youth housing, emergency shelter, community juvenile justice services, residential treatment, and foster care and adoption.
You are why Lighthouse Youth & Family Services has been serving the community for more than 50 years. Have you or someone you know been served by Lighthouse? Have you worked for Lighthouse? We hope to reconnect and learn from past experiences as we work with you to do more to support our community. We can't wait to hear from you!

I was a young adult, in high school on my way to graduating, I became homeless. This place stepped in, however, definitely I paid the price, the longer they pay ya rent or help, it's a catch 22. Within yrs there was a shift on me focusing on college, job opportunities, communication skills; to me going to mental institution; then I was diagnosis. I overheard my diagnosis later on, by accident by a caseworker.
Fast forward, I made a choice, and decided I didn't want to be a STIGMA. I moved on, started my (In home)business, changed me in a optimistic way! Decided I wanted a child, even got married to the love of my life Fast forward Do you know tell this day, and for the rest of my life my S.S carries me having a mental illness or disability? I work my tail off for mine everyday, I decided I didn't want to take the easy way out, I prefered being productive.
At the end of the day, no matter where I go, I'm labed. Moral of the story is this: Take care of your children, or this world will, rather it be prison or you being out here fake free, with a logo on your head, take care of your babies or they will have a plan and place for them.

They refer to this site as the Sheakly Center but its better known as the youth crisis center. I've work with more than a handful of youth who have had to utilize this program. Without knowing what it is you'd never know it was essentially a homeless shelter for adolescents. They serve runaways, kids who get kicked out or abandoned by their parents, victims of sexual abuse etc. Kudos to the Sheakly's for putting all that money towards something beneficial and useful.
Although you are not able to just "show up" here, it is a great resource for younger folks who are in crisis. I'm not sure how long they can stay but its a temporary respite during a time of need.
