I had a lamp that I bought second hand and was looking for a place to get it fixed despite never needing a lamp thing fixed before. It was a cute design, but the light started not working the day before I bought it. The owner was super nice and gave me a fair quote. They also took the time to let me know what needed to be done. I was called in less than 2 days and was charged what I was quoted!
So glad that I managed to get a lamp that's still probably less than the retail price even with the cost of repair. They kept it simple and easy to get my lamp fixed. I definitely will come back! Parking is also very easy. There is a small lot with meters right around the corner, making unloading and moving what you need fixed very easy.

My daughter bought a vintage floor lamp with a busted switch and a couple of other problems. The guy at Practical Props put in a new switch, rewired the lamp with a cord that matched the finish, and managed to get the retaining clips for the glass shades freed up, as they'd seemingly fused to the bulb sockets. And, they packed up the shades in a ton of bubble wrap for protection. All of this for an entirely reasonable price, and done in one day. Super happy with this place

I like shopping locally, but the last 2 times I stopped in, the man in charge was arrogant and dismissive. Are you trying to drive customers away? I just don't get the attitude. They used to have a wonderful young lady who was such a pleasure to work with. I bought a lovely lamp there and a bunch of supplies, but I will no longer go there!

Lighted Mirror Lamp Repair: I had a lighted mirror that fell, ripping the plug out of the back. The mirror was fine, but the plug was damaged - Practical Props gave me a couple of price options to repair it and did so while I waited. I was very glad to be able to fix it rather than throw it away for a small problem. Very friendly and professional staff, thank you!

I ordered an outdoor sconce for my house in Austin. Shipping was incredibly fast (same day I think) and install was a breeze. The sconce itself is high quality and looks so much cooler than the default modern big box sconce I had before. I cannot recommend Practical Props enough. From quality to customer support, they are a 10/10.

I had two 1930's European ceiling light canopies that I needed to have converted to fit 110 v & the standard American J-Box mounts. Total cost to completely rewire & retrofit two canopies to modern American electrical standards: $32. I was quoted $90 per fixture at two other places & told by several others that retrofitting was impossible. In addition to doing the work for what I consider to be an incredible price, the owner also did this work while I waited.
It took him less than one hour! In addition to being an excellent light repair shop, Practical Props has a wonderful selection of vintage lights & reproduction vintage lights. I bought a reproduction starburst light (that they manufacture) from them years ago for my old house that decorators always complimented. They have A LOT of art deco globes in stock for much less than they sell for on ebay/1st dibs/etc.

This place is great! My bedroom lamp had a broken switch. I found them on line, called, and was told it could be repaired while I wait. I rushed over there, was greeted warmly by two people - I assume it was Della and Ian - and five minutes later it was done! And the cost of a new socket was extremely reasonable! The repair tech even came out to demonstrate it now works.
Be sure to look around in the really cool showroom with its many unique, vintage lamps. There's ample parking in back, plus street parking. They've got a new customer!

Very cool place to explore. I live near by, so I walk passed by it sometimes. It's neat, has many cool lamps to peek at. They rent lamps as props for movies, fix lamps, re-store them, they do a bit of everything. I had a cool, vintage lamp I wanted to use for a movie, but it didn't have a shade, I needed one to match the time period and the style.
The owner was cool, helpful, helped us find the right one. He was great to chat with. The price was decent. Other friends had good experiences here as well, fixing older lamps or getting shades to match an older model. Street parking. Cool place, one of a kind, one of these stores you can find on Magnolia Blvd. only.
