Can't say enough about the service at Shades of Light. I purchased a mirror that after a period of time developed a crack all the way across. I worked with Grady and he worked with the manufacturer to get me a new mirror all at no cost to me. This was well out of warranty. Shades of Light has a customer for life. Grady and his team went above and beyond for me when he didn't have to and I really really appreciate it. Thank you!

We went in to buy new lights for our home and saw some that would be perfect, but the few people working there never acknowledged us. We took our time walking around the entire store, but could not ever get help so we left. This is the first time in my life that I have ever felt completely invisible. We will not return. We ended up buying our lights online.so sad.

BEWARE--HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and NO QUALITY CONTROL. Do not waste your time. I ordered a light fixture 2.5 months ago, and I'm still dealing with the fallout. The fixture I received had a clear defect. I contacted customer service to return the defective fixture and have another one sent. Just to get the return label to send back the original fixture, I had to follow up multiple times--despite emails from Shades of Light indicating I would be charged if I did not return the fixture in a timely manner.
I received a second fixture--it had the SAME defect. I then went through the time consuming process of yet again swapping the fixture for a THIRD fixture. This required multiple follow up and time spent by me. A third fixture was sent, which was also defective. Even more disappointing is that each fixture had a hand-signed inspection tag with the name of the individual that inspected the fixture.
After this third, defective light fixture, I requested a full refund. I had to follow up numerous times to complete this process. I had to stay on them to indicate that all the fixtures had been timely returned by me. I had to request a refund multiple times. My refund was not actually processed until I contacted them to complain that my fixtures had been received by the company and weeks had passed.
At this point and considering the months I had been dealing with Shades of Light and their total lack of quality control, I asked that the FULL price of my order be refunded, including the $50 shipping charge. I was simply told "we don't refund shipping." There was no apology for my experience or Shades of Light's mistakes and poor quality control. I will never again order from this company. I'm still disappointed over the amount of time I spent dealing with this for such an unsatisfactory "resolution."

Shades of light is not a well run company. They have no contact on the weekend, making it very difficult to communicated. Also, when you try during the week, the wait is so long to get through, I had to give up a few times I ordered a fixture and it came well packed. After seeing the fixture, it was something I could have ordered at Home Depot. There was nothing special about the quality and it was overpriced.
I called to return and was told that as a courtesy, they would not charge me the return shipping. When I finally got my credit, I was charged the shipping fee. I would never deal with this company again. I do not recommend this company.

I should of read the reviews before setting up a trade account with this company. Absolutely horrible. I have been going around and around with them for over 4 months trying to get sales tax taken off of my credit card. Every time I submit the require documentation they never follow up. Then when I follow up they state that it was the wrong form or their "system" won't accept it.
I have been in business for over 20 years and buy from over 300 different vendors and have never had this type of experience. I have all of the proper resale tax exemption paperwork (and have submitted it numerous times) and they still refuse to issue the appropriate refund. I'm now forced to contact my credit card company and do a chargeback and will be filing a complaint with the attorney general of Michigan today. Be warned. if you are a designer or reseller - DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! Unless you like being charged twice!

I wish we had read these reviews before we purchased. We bought a fixture, and didn't like the way it worked in our space. We returned it after speaking with customer service who told us that we would get reimbursed for shipping. Turns out that is not true. So on top of the restocking fee, we paid over $100 in shipping. We had planned on exchanging for another fixture but will take our money elsewhere. Do not buy from Shades of Light. There are way too many other options out there to risk losing time and money.

If this is how you run a business I'm surprised this store is still around. Customer service is not their strong suit, was never acknowledged from the moment we walked in to the time we walked out. We were looking to replace all the light fixtures in our new home but guess this was the wrong place to go. Unless your older and stuffy no one helps you.
Selection is a far cry from other stores I've been in but no worries I won't be back. Would I ever suggest this place to a friend.heck no! STAY CLEAR! When I'm ready to drop $$ on all new fixtures at least acknowledge me!

I bought an 8 x 10 area rug from this company. The rug was beautiful but, within 1 year, it began to disintegrate. I had ordered through a designer and had her contact the company and file a claim. The company never responded. We have had to throw the rug away and order a better quality from another company. Bad product, bad customer service.

Do not use this place. I have recently completed a major renovation and bought most of my light fixtures from Build.com and Wayfair. Both places have incredible customer service and returns are easy, wherein they provide the shipping label and pay for the majority of the shipping. Shades of Light was terrible. My shipment was super delayed, there was no access to a tracking number, I couldn't get anyone on the phone or to respond by email, and when the shipment did come and I need to return something (because I was forced to find the item elsewhere because of the delay) I couldn't get anyone on the phone but their third party answering service and was responsible for paying for the shipping. There are too many other places that sell quality light fixtures that have MUCH better customer service. Save yourself the aggravation and skip this place.

I would love to give a review on the 3 pendant lights I ordered in July of 2021 however, I am STILL waiting to receive them. Was told in July product was available and they would ship in 7-10 days. Then was told backordered until 11/21. Now am told 4/22.9 months after ordering. 1 was shipped and received however, doesn't do much good when 3 are needed. Why even offer product if you cannot get it?

Ordered pendants and still haven't got them. They shipped the bulbs (I've received) under one tracking and the $800 under the same tracking. FedEx said only one item was under the tracking number. Cannot talk to anyone in customer service, I've emailed with no response. They use a third-party answering service that told me someone would respond in 5-10 business days. What?! Going to contact my credit card company for a refund. Extremely disappointing. Have ordered from them before with no problem.

I ordered a light online but it was way too small for our space. I have made at least 4 attempts to return the light and have only had one response that a return label would be charged and emailed to me within 2 days. That email was 3 weeks ago. I have since emailed 2 other times with no response. Horrible customer service! I have ordered several light fixtures as we have been remodeling and this site has the worst service.

Purchased a sconce a little over a year ago. Product description said carved wood. It was resin. They discounted for me, and I wound up painting it, and had it hung by an electrician. Put in the recommended wattage, and I was happy with it, until last week, when I noticed the plastic lining of the shade had cracked and a piece was missing. So, I contacted them. It's no longer sold, and all they could do was offer a discount on another light. Wow!
I asked for the manufacturers name, and I was told they could not give that out! What? Top secret, I suppose. They do not back what they are selling. Buyer beware. I've since located the same fixture for 1/3 the cost of what they sold mine for, so they are so overpriced as well. Shop around. Lighting New York, were great. Good prices and caring customer care. Btw, the discount they offered both times was laughable.

Are you kidding me! My first experience with Shades of Light is horrible at best. I don't even know where to begin, so I will start on a positive. Sconces I ordered were average at best ( my Target scones are of a superior quality) just didn't complement my decor. Decided to return and almost had a stroke at their return costs and on top of that, payment for a FedEx label.
I cannot reach anyone in customer service to find out the label cost but I'm guessing around $40 per other reviews. This will run me around $110 to return my purchase. Insane. It is my fault for not reading their return policy before I pulled the trigger, so that's on me, still excessive. Why, why, why would anyone order from this company when sooooo many others offer free shipping and returns?

This company is horrible! Do NOT order from them. We ordered a light fixture; when it finally arrived, it was the wrong color. The box had a label that indicated it was the color we ordered, but that was not what was inside. I have sent multiple emails to their customer service department, and have received no response! We want to return this item, but I'm not paying for the shipping (as you normally would have to do), because this was their mistake, not ours! All we get are automated email responses with excuses about how they are running behind, etc., etc. Just don't waste your time ordering from them.

Needed to order a few light fixtures and had a couple questions so called the number on the back of the catalog. Sat on hold thirty minutes. Finally, the person who answered and several times over described herself as a "third party answering service, " knew nothing. She was useless! As I became increasingly more frustrated, I looked up any additional number to call the store directly.
The woman I reached who was basically unfriendly and curt at best, (perhaps I reached her "working from home"). At any rate, she proceeded to tell me she was getting off work in nine minutes, and was very abrupt answering my questions! Basically, customer service sucks at Shades of Light so we are taking our business elsewhere.

I love the distressed painted mirror. Its perfect fit for my home. Very unique and nicely distressed colors! Its such a statement piece. I paid an electrician to install my beautiful new light fixture and when he arrived, he realized my chandelier was defective. $100 service call down the drain. Shades of Light customer service issued a return label with no apology, and refused to issue a pick up for it. The chandelier weighed almost 40 pounds and was in a huge box. I had to wrangle it to the FedEx location by myself. Again, the item was defective so it's THEIR issue.
I told them I didn't want a replacement because I don't want to hire another electrician to come out and not have anything to install if another one is defective. So. I just received a credit on my credit card and they deducted $159.93 for shipping and return charges! I am LIVID! I've never experienced anything like this with a company.

1. The items were listed as "in stock" and of course were not and took a month to get here. 2. They sent the wrong part for one of the lamps so they do not match - fun. 3. One of the lamps was made so badly that it wobbled and could not be leveled. 4. The lamp shades that I received with my $350 lamps were the crappiest things I have ever seen. 5.

I ordered three pendants which were listed as 'in stock' at the time of purchase, and they still took almost a month to get to me. The pendants ended up being too big for our kitchen so I had to return them, which has continued to be a terrible, frustrating experience. I had to pay $40 for a Fedex return label, which I was told 'would be emailed to me in 3-5 business days.' A week goes by and nothing until I send an aggressive email to customer service. I'm finally able to get the pendants in the mail, and a refund showed up on my credit card that is 1/4 of the total I paid for the pendants. Cue another aggressive email to customer service. Stay away from this place if you can - you'll be frustrated if you're not immediately & forever happy with the items you purchase.

I placed an online order for 3 hanging lights. 24 hours after I placed the order, I received a notice that the lights were back ordered and would be shipped to me by September 9th. So far nothing and no updates from the company. I have taken these steps: 1) Went to the site and tried the "order status" link. Order status does not recognized my order number. 2). Called customer service number and the line just rings and rings. Was on letting the phone ring for 45 minutes x 3. Hung up every time and no answer.

Called the order number in the hopes of getting a live body and got a 3rd party answering service. She took my information and said someone would get back to me within 72 hours. Still waiting. Yelp seems to be the only way to contact this company.
If I don't receive a status by tomorrow, I'll just cancel. The lack of communication is super frustrating. Will it be another day? A week? A month? Is this company in bankruptcy? What is happening? I wish I had read these reviews before I placed my order and I would have moved on. This is putting me way behind in my project and everyone is very disappointed.

Website and choices were great. Everything after I gave them my money sucked like 2020. Placed an order for 2 items that were "in stock and ready to ship". 10 days went by with absolutely nothing. I sent them an email asking for an update. Another 4 days go by without a response. I call, it rings FORVER, and then I get a prerecorded message telling me to send an email for a faster response No. Canceling order now. This is ridiculous.

Worst customer service ever. It would take way too much time to describe the torture of calling Shades of Light. Suffice to say I spent a couple hours trying to get them on the phone. being told over and over where I was in line, how long it would take (but the time never decreased) only to eventually be told by their answering service on the corporate number, that they're only taking email.
I had placed an order without hearing a thing for 10 days. They'll get back to me in 5 business days. There are so many ways they failed to communicate. Btw, the 2 stars are for the product. They do have pretty righteous things you can't get anywhere else.

No need to throw shade at this retailer! Having purchased several light fixtures here, and also having several lamp repairs done here, I feel confident in saying this store brightens my day! The lighting here is exquisite. From table lamps to sconces to floor lamps to chandeliers to lanterns and hanging/pendant light fixtures, this shop has it all.
Whatever your style, they've got you covered: Asian, Retro, Wrought iron, Modern, Classic, Contemporary, Nautical, Boho and more. Yes, they are more pricey that your average home decor store, but the quality is superb. And talk about being shady. the selection of lamp shades is massive! They will even help you choose the perfect shade for your lamp, just bring it in.
