In 1974 two friends and soon to be brothers-in-law were frustrated when they began to shop for lamps and lighting fixtures for their respective homes. What they found were sales people whose only interest was in selling them and not helping them find the lighting that would fit their tastes and budgets, and prices that were inflated.

I am so happy I stopped into Hi-Light! I found the chandelier that I wanted and John gave me a great price. I had to special order the light and it wasn't due to come in until July.about a 13-15 week wait. About 2 weeks after placing the order John calls to tell me that my chandelier has come in. I asked him.how? He explained that it was actually his model to display in the store, but he gave it to me so I didn't have to wait until July! Super nice and very much appreciated! I will definitely be going back.

There is simply no other place that is like Hi-Light. When you walk in, you enter a carefully arranged store that has a lot on display and in stock. Our salesperson listened carefully and made great recommendations for our dining room, kitchen pendants, and entry chandelier. On our latest visit, we ordered outdoor fixtures from their newly designed outdoor section. Dozens to chose from.
You simply have to see in person before buying and Hi Light has so much on display. Well priced and great service. A++ They are a family business that has been in Yonkers for almost 50 years! You don't see that very often!

Over priced and extremely rude staff! I was in to shop for 3 major light fixtures and was treated rudely. They do not want you to take pictures in their store. Since they have a no return policy (just exchange if still packaged), I felt I'd better be sure about my decision to buy from them. Pictures really help when you get home. Maybe they hope you get stuck or make an impulsive buying decision.
I can't think of any other reason! I left, went down the road to another lighting store in the area. I was encouraged to take pictures and make a good decision on potential purchases probably amounting to over 1500. I was treated very nicely. They had great prices too. Guess they lost a good customer!

The selections at Hi-Light are amazing as is the service. I bought this beautiful chandelier with Rina's help. She was spot on with the size and also helped me pick out the right bulbs. I will surely be back if I need any new light fixtures. Also, the vanities in the store are beautiful. If I ever need one, will shop there, based on my recent experience.

Best selection and best service in westchester. After visiting other stores in the area I can see why this store was so busy. Their selection was unbelievable and the salespeople were eager to help. We purchased outdoor lighting And ceiling fans for my new home and will definitely be back for vanities and a dining room fixture next. This store is next level! So happy we found them.

What a pleasure to buy from real people in a real store! After dissatisfying searches online, I stopped in and found exactly what I was looking for at a reasonable price. The staff was helpful. While there are many high end items, there also more ordinary items. I heartily recommend this store for all sorts of lighting needs.

It was the first store we went to in search of a new vanity for our main bathroom. Saw one I loved but thought the price was too high! Fast forward 3 days and numerous other plumbing stores that sold vanities! Nothing compared to what we saw at Hi-light Lighting & Vanities. We went back and purchased the one I loved originally. Price was equivalent to other stores but the customer service at Hi-Light is above anywhere else we went! Thank you John for your expertise and great attitude. We'll be back for a mirror and light to go over the vanity!

I have been a customer for 20 years. Almost every fixture and lamp inside and outside my house was purchased at Hi Light. Recently a Tiffany style desk lamp needed to be repaired. It turned out to be more difficult than anticipated but they did everything they could to ensure it was repaired. I wasn't there to purchase anything new but that didn't matter to them. I was a customer and they understand the importance of good customer service. Thank you again for fixing one of my favorite lamps.

We had looked in several stores for ceiling lights and stumbled upon this store. Excellent customer service - very helpful and patient as we were picky on what we wanted - a resourceful store with different kind of light fixtures. And we were happy with our purchase- perfect lights for our dining and living room. The only con - it's the checkout- this store is old school- all receipts are handwritten. But nonetheless, it is perfect & plenty of options to pick your light.

Your response to negative reviews says it all. I know quality which I why I chose to look at independently owned stores. But you failed to address my main complaint about tour pathetic camera policy. My interior designer likes to see pictures to make sure items with compliment and work with our major renovations. Your M.O. is to attack anyone who has anything negative to say.

Big selection of lights. Teeny selection of kindness and customer service. And I had a similar experience to a previous post- no one bothered to ask if I needed help and I kind of felt it was because I looked different as well. I like my money to go to deserving people. The owner is rude and has a smart answer for everything- as you can see the way he responds to the posts that he doesn't like.
Instead of finding a solution, or trying to find a middle ground, he attempts to bully people. There are other light stores not far from him on central Ave that have much more helpful and nicer people with the same selection of lights at a better price.

The customer is last. No pictures allowed. They have no understanding of shopping behavior. They want to charge $1400 for a vanity but won't let you take a picture of it so you can see how it might look in your house. Same thing with their lights and their fans. Nice inventory but you're buying 100% risk risk

I am trying to give this store the benefit of the doubt, but it is hard. They lead with how long they have been in business when responding to concerns or inquiries. While that certainly speaks to something, poor customer service and smarmy staff will lose business. Providing customers with receipts that have an item number but no description of merchandise purchased is a little suspicious.
Especially since pricing, item numbers on web site do not match. Moreover how does a customer ensure they have received the correct merchandise since they do not receive key details. I don't plan to open or hang immediately. They operate like a business afraid of losing something to competitors, understandable, but being shady with customers is not. Cryptic and dismissive.
When I purchase a product I like to know about it. I love small businesses and family owned. Great service will always get my money, They forbid pictures. So customers must pay for an item in full including those on back order and wait to get a call back? After I went to the store. Felt a little profiled so I decided to read reviews. I might order one or two more pieces but will not give this place all of my business which will be a lot. A little more work in customer service department goes a long way. Not just the owner.

Love the staff at Hi-Light! Not only do the have an incredible selection, they listen to their customers wants and needs to help pin point the best options. I couldn't be more happy with the fixtures from Hi-Light that have completely transformed my home. I bought a dining room fixture, entry fixture, a bedroom fixture and 4 hallway lights and it looks like I remodeled my house. Thank you John and Allison!

I'm really sorry I came here. I brought in a lamp that I wanted repaired. I showed them what was wrong with it and asked if they could provide me with an estimate to repair. The repair person took it to the back to "take a closer look" after about 15 mins I asked the woman who had been helping us what was taking so long. She replied "he's fixing it". That's not what I asked you to do.
I asked for you to give me an estimate of repair. A few moments latter he comes out with the lamp saying that he "did the best" he could and it would be $30. I paid it to leave--but I can already tell it's a mediocre job and I'm annoyed. If you can't restore or repair say so.

I'm sorry to say I had a negative experience returning a lighting fixture. The owner Allison was quite aggressive. I originally went into the store looking for options to solve a lighting problem. Allison was an incredible help. I was hesitate to make the purchase not being sure if the options she offered would work. I felt it best to go home & measure but Allison said "just return it if it doesn't work".
Since Allison is part owner I didn't think to check the store policy as I took her at her word. When I went in today for the return she immediately took a different tone with me. When I say the sales lady and Allison were aggressive I am not overstating. There were comments made to me "it's common sense to check a store's return policy", when I tried to explain my position and was interrupted I was told "ma'am you haven't stopped talking since you came in here" and "I said exchange not RETURN!" " We have signs posted everywhere and ITS ON OUR RECEIPT"!
To their credit they did have 2 signs posted, unfortunately on the day I was there they had boxes and papers on the desk covering these signs. It was on the receipt and I didn't think to check the fine print as I really just believed her that it would be an easy return. Yes bad on me but it would have felt rude to question as she made it sound so easy and she had taken so much time with me.

The husband/owner was very nice and asked his wife to complete my return and even offered to take a return I had lost the box from with a restocking fee. Stay Away from Hi-Light. I own a real estate firm and will make sure that all of my clients know this. They do not stand behind their own mistakes and misrepresentations of their product-and their sales people lie. We bought a bathroom light fixture on 2/15. We asked for a larger one than was on the wall (Hanging was a 24"; we wanted a 36".) They said they had it and went to get it.
The box read 30 5/8" which I did not notice. HOWEVER, the light in the box was 24" which I had specifically said was too small. They refuse to do anything about that. They claim I should be able to read the bar code and that they are not responsible for the printed information on the box. REALLY? No way to do business. #contactWestchesterCountyDA #ContactBetterBusinessBureau

The customer service here is abysmal. I spent $1500 on lighting fixtures and came into the shop at least 5 times since placing the order; each time it's like starting from scratch having to explain who you are and what was ordered. I exchanged a fixture and purchased another one. I was told they would follow up with the company to check on when it would come in.
I haven't heard anything and it's been 4 weeks. Additionally, when I inquired about returning a fixture that I didn't like after taking it home, the gentleman on the phone responded "Oh god no, we couldn't accept a fixture back. Our types of customers would never buy something like that". I was shocked. There was no further discussion or compromise.
Apparently the elite customers on Central Ave wouldn't be interested in a preowned fixture. I think this business is reserved for the older generation of Westchester. The business relies on paper receipts, no computer tracking or online ordering (although they have an incredibly inefficient website which the staff doesn't know how to work), and a general arrogant attitude that they're too good for customers that aren't working with designers or buying fixtures for an entire house. I'm disappointed with the attitude, customer service, and ultimately the fixtures.

Very rude personnel there. I went in and felt there was a rudeness and attitude. I walked out very annoyed at that. There was no reason for it it's not like there was any coming from me! Then unfortunately the light fixture my mom really wanted was from there so I ordered over the phone and was given attitude again which got worse when I asked if we can inspect the item first!
Long story short my mom went to pick it up and again was given attitude about wanting to look over the $280 fixture before leaving with it. They made her look at it OUTSIDE! So ridiculous. I will never go there again! Or ever recommend. When you are in the business of dealing with people kindness goes a long way!

JOHN A SAVED THE DAY! Needed a light fixture for my bathroom. Stopped by to check out their selection. Upon entering the store I was greeted with a not so welcoming hello. The staff was not very friendly and made it seem as I was bothering them with my questions. I saw a fixture that I liked but wanted my hubby to see it before purchasing it. When the staff realized I wasn't going to buy immediately, their actions pretty much showed me the door.
I took the hint and left. I made up my mind I was going to purchase the fixture elsewhere but went back to show it to my husband. I was immediately greeted by John A who made me feel welcome. He was personable, helpful and asked all the right questions. His guidance made me realize my choice wasn't a good one and he helped me find a light that was just right. My decision to purchase the light elsewhere was reversed because of my experience with John A. Nice job John A, your colleagues should take a page out of your book!
