Services
Mahlander's rich history spans more than a century. In 1906, three local businessmen founded Electric Construction Company - an electrical contractor which supplied electricity to large area projects. As electricity made its way into the homes and businesses of the region, so did the company. Shortly after World War II, Marlo Mahlstedt purchased one electric refrigerator to test the Sioux Falls market for such a product.
The team of professionals at Mahlander's is second to none. Collectively, our sales staff has acquired well over a century of experience in their areas of expertise. They continually push themselves to learn more and stay abreast of the latest trends, styles and technology in both lighting and home appliances.
By exceeding expectations and standing behind our products, Mahlander's strives for client satisfaction. We value stellar customer care - especially after the sale. That's how we've done business for more than a century and will continue for years to come. Our customers know and appreciate our commitment to their peace of mind.

Great place for all kinds of lighting, mirrors, knick-nacks and appliances. They also have their own service dept. We have purchased all our kitchen appliances and lighting for our new house here. We will continue to buy from them. We've received great help from their Sales dept without needing a service call.

We will never do business with Mahlander's again. We have been waiting 15 months for our wall oven/microwave unit. Any contact for seeing if out unit has arrived has been initiated by us. We have seen reviews on the Mahlander's website from people saying they ordered the same unit after us and have already gotten their's. Every time we call they tell us yet another delayed date to expect anything and that they are "waiting patiently ". We are no longer waiting patiently. I would not give them even 1 star, but I can't post this unless I do.

We bought all new Bosch appliances. They have been nothing but a disaster. The microwave has had to be repaired twice. The stove top gas range does not always ignite. Our refrigerator was supposed to be fingerprintless (we paid extra for that) and is so evidently NOT. The ice maker has always been a problem and now the refrigerator has stopped cooling. These appliances are 5 years old. They are horrible and I will never buy again.

If you enjoy the thriftstore experience (with authentic thriftstore smell and layout), but high end prices, and very limited selection, this is the place for you! This lighting and appliance store is chaos incarnate, and if you're over 5' 7 be prepared to constantly duck, since there's stuff hanging all over from the low ceilings. Could massively benefit from a simple reorganization of their inventory.

Understand that there are two businesses operating out of this location: Mahlander's, the high end lighting store for the well-to-do of Sioux Falls; and Bob's Repair, a mysterious shadow business that is entirely decoupled from the ladies that do lighting. If you think you're going to Mahlander's for repairs, you're not. You're going to Bob's.
Your item is placed in the back where it awaits Bob, who may or may not exist. Any status will not be communicated to anyone existing outside of Bob's mind, so any inquiries are answered with "I don't know, ask Bob. He's not here. Call back later." After your item sits for more than a month, you can go retrieve it, covered in dust and dented and scratched.
And then the lighting ladies will clutch their pearls and act astonished that this whole scenario may, in fact, have UPSET you, the potential customer. But that's your mistake. Bob's has no customers, only suffering fools.

We had a leaky washing machine and they came out and serviced it. Very professional, on time, and reasonably priced. He took the time to explain things to my wife and also let us know the cost to replace. We didn't buy the Electrolux units from them, but we will definitely be back to buy from them next time. The place we did buy them from couldn't come out to service it for almost TWO WEEKS! Sorry.can't wait that long. Glad we called Mahlander's and got the service we did. Thanks guys!

Worst customer service ever! Tried to get our dishwasher fixed not once, but twice. Had to wait for parts for over a month. They put them in and it now keeps blowing fuses. Call to get a repair person to fix it yet a 3rd time and they tell me the guy is on vacation for a week. Asked for someone else to fix it and the lady tells me that he has to fix it.
I ask to speak to a manager and then she gives me attitude and tells me they'll have to call me back when they have time. Unbelievable! I'd look elsewhere to buy your appliances or service if this is the way they want to act to existing customers.

We purchased a washer/dryer there 6 years ago, last week we called for service. They decided we needed a $410 new motor, despite the fact that the code said we needed new brushes. They ordered the motor, were supposed to be here around 2pm 7/10/19 to install the new motor. They called at 2:45 to say the motor wouldn't be in for a few weeks. That day my husband ordered new brushes for $35 & today 7/12/19 installed them in 30min. They were rude and dismissive of us. 100% would never recommend, in fact I would actively advise against buying from or using them.

We've purchased appliances here for 2 houses over the past 6 years and we've had 3 services calls in that time. One for the fridge, one for the dishwasher, and one for the washing machine. They've been outstanding to work with. Homer and Tom have always taken great care of us and their service techs and local and very professional. in every support case they were able to get out to us within 24-48 hours. Very happy with the experience we've had with them.

Gosh I hate to leave a bad review for a small, local business, but my last two visits have made me feel like a bad person and a bad mom which is ridiculous. The first time I was appliance shopping here a few days ago, the salesman was extremely abrupt and angry when I politely mentioned their competitor's price. If you can't meet that price, just politely tell me why.
Now today a completely different salesman helped me. This time I had my toddler with. He was being a normal 2 year old and wanted to explore the store. Rather than the salesman just walking with us and continuing to answer my questions, he just stayed put over by the appliance we were discussing, and his nonverbals toward us were offensive. He clearly did not want my toddler in his store.
For the record, not that that it should even matter, but My son was not screaming or throwing a tantrum or hurting anything. He just wanted to walk around the store. The appliance that I probably want to buy is $20 cheaper here with free delivery, but they will not be seeing my business after making me feel this way.
